HOPE for home educating families

Isaiah 40:31 '...HOPE in the Lord'

I'm going to start adding college specific information and resources here for those that will be going from home to college!

If you have anything you'd like me to add to this page please forward it to me @ hopeforfamilies@bellsouth.net

Remember that there IS a college for every child...and, most importantly, if God wants your child to attend a college they will!

...HOPE in the Lord...

Nancy

=============================

This was very interesting, and eye opening. It's a 20/20 on public schools, and vouchers.
Makes me glad that homeschooling is an option for us.

Save on College Textbooks

Last Update: 9/21 10:36 am
Are you taking college courses.... or do you have a child attending college this fall?

One of the biggest added costs of college are textbooks.

Returning to campus in the fall is always a great time ...until its time to hit the campus bookstore,

Melissa Kopriva says"it's a crime...I've got to get into the textbook business when I graduate!"

Yes, business and science textbooks can easily cost $150 each these days.

That's why used book sections are so popular at campus stores.

We found a clean $107 book for $79.

Great Websites for Savings

Students like Sarah Ledergaul, however, say they do even better online.

Sarah says "I'll go to ebay, half dot com...Its usually 20% off what I can find at the bookstore."

Two sites many students use for finding used books are:

"Half dot com" .... and "Abe books dot com." (Click links above)

Meantime, a good price comparison engine is "Cheapesttextbooks dot com."

Two Cautions

Two warnings, though: First, make sure you don't buy an old edition.

As John Porter learned, it may not match the book used in class.

John tells me "people are wondering if they can use the old text, but they cant cause you can't keep track of the pages."

So make sure the date and ISBN number match the professor's list.

Finally, one last tip about used textbooks: You have to move fast.

Used bookstores often will have just 3 or 4 used copies ....and websites quickly sell out of the latest versions every fall.

So get that list and start pricing as soon as you can, so you dont waste your money.
